On AVRA we have used many spinnaker douse methods over the years:  leeward drops, gybe drops, clew windward takedowns, foot cords...For 2009, we have simplified to a single method which is safe and works reliably:  the Tack Retriever Douse.  This can be done to windward (retriever line and spinnaker come around the headstay) or to leeward (retriever line and spinnaker come UNDER the headsail).  The method is shown above and can be downloaded here:
